Livestock Judging Continues ON
White County 4-H Livestock Judging is going full blast the last couple of weeks. We have averaged about 20 4-H members per session. They are learning about swine, cattle, and we will be working on sheep and goats in the coming weeks. The contest is March 24, I think we we will have a good chance at winning this year.
4-H Poster Contest was a success
216 4-H posters were turned in by 4th and 5th graders at all the elementary schools this January. The county winners include Saylor Wilson 4th grader from Findlay, Makenna Cravens 4th grader from Findlay and Austin Bolin 5th grader from Woodland Park. We sent all three on to the state contest. I hope to have pictures of them shortly.

4-H Clover Bowl
It is 4-H Clover Bowl time again. Clover Bowl is the trivia quiz contest that 4-H puts on each year. Throughout the month of February students will be receiving their books with questions in them. Each booklet is filled with questions on 4-H , Agriculture, Tennessee, and Food and Consumer Science questions. The students study these questions and in April we have a quiz show much like Jeopardy.
White County 4-H Members Launch Water Rockets
This month in the 4th and 5th grade clubs, members are launching water rockets. The water rockets are made from 2 liter soda bottles. Each student brings a 2 liter with them and it is filled about 1/3 full of water. I have made rocket launchers using pvc pipe and a bicycle pump. The water bottle is slid over the pvc pipe and then filled to about 40 pounds of air pressure. The bottle then will launch and travel anywhere from 100 ft. to 240 ft depending on the weather and the amount of weight the rocket has. This project teaches young people about rocket thrust. It puts in simple terms how airplanes and and the space shuttle are able to launch and leave the ground and even break through the atomosphere.
